The word bergamot is etymologically derived from bergomotta in Italian, originating from Bergamo, a town in Italy. Earlier references exist indicating derivation from Turkish beg-armudi "prince's pear" or "prince of pears”.

Scent of bergamot is fresh, green, fruity, and cleanly refreshing, but slightly spicy. The term "Earl Grey" has applied to black teas that contain Bergamot essential oil as a flavouring.

Bergamot Oil is antidepressant and stimulating in nature, create a feeling of freshness, joy and energy in cases of sadness and depression by improving the circulation of the blood. Bergamot Oil also stimulate hormonal secretions, helping to maintain proper metabolic rates, to poduce relaxed and calm feelings. Bergamot has the added advantage of lowering blood sugars and triglycerides.

Bergamot Essential Oil may be used regularly on the skin and hair, as the oil is a natural anti-septic and anti-biotic.

Bergamot is refreshing and uplifting, and helps acne, wounds insect bites and oily complexions. Bergamot is great for soothing oily, irritated skin. Bergamot is also uplifting when you are feeling run down from throaty colds, flu and fever. It kills worms. It can also be applied on an affected tooth or used as a mouthwash to kill oral germs and protect teeth from cavities.

NOTE: If Bergamot is used on the skin, it can cause temporary photosensitivity. Bergamot blends well with chamomile, citronella, palmarosa, and ylang ylang.

FC-Free (sometimes simply called FCF) means furocoumarin free. Furocoumarins are oil constituents that are know to make the skin highly sensitive and easily damaged by sunlight and it is highly recommended that only FC-Free bergamot oil be used for aromatherapy.
